Can a CHEAP Guitar Be GOOD? | Donner DST-100R Beginner Bundle

begin your guitar journey in style…

In this video we are once again scrutinizing the quality of beginner guitars in an effort to discover something cheap which is also a good investment.

Under the microscope is a DST-100R from Donner. This retails for just over $100 for the guitar itself (a little more if you want all the accessories shown in the video) and represents the best quality you can expect from an instrument at this price range.

The guitar is a 22 fret HSS Strat copy with a classy metallic red finish. It’s clear that attention to the build quality hasn’t been sacrificed to achieve the low price, the guitar is incredibly well constructed. A wide range of extras, including a surprisingly great sounding battery powered amplifier, ensure that you will not be left wanting for essential accessories.

Of course right out of the box it needed a little set up to play at its best. You will see that process documented with the video in order to understand the work needed to accomplish the best results.

After installing a fresh set of strings and tweaking the set up the guitar plays comfortably and the tuning stays solid through any bends you wish to throw at it.
The pickups, although basic, give a wide range of sounds. The bridge humbucker is a favourite here for its strong aggressive character, making this instrument even more versatile than 3 single coil set up of a conventional Stratocaster.

Beginners will get a well made, versatile instrument that stays in tune while seasoned players will find an excellent modification platform or a project instrument for improving their guitar maintenance skills.
